Ambush is a single by Australian electronic artist Timothy and the Apocalypse, the music project of photographer and producer Timothy Poulton. Inspired by a winter journey through Patagonia, the track incorporates atmospheric field recordings and sounds captured around El Chaltén, Argentina.
From Patagonia Into Sound
Ambush began with a place.

During a winter journey through Patagonia, Timothy Poulton spent weeks photographing the extraordinary landscapes surrounding El Chaltén, Argentina. It was a world of violent winds, snow, ice and immense silence, where the atmosphere could change completely within minutes.
As well as photographing the landscape, Timothy began recording the sounds around him. The wind became particularly important. Rather than treating it as background noise, he became fascinated by its movement, texture and unpredictability.
Those recordings eventually followed him home.
Back in the studio, working as Timothy and the Apocalypse, Timothy began weaving elements of the Patagonia recordings into an electronic composition. The natural textures were processed, stretched and layered alongside synths, percussion and atmospheric drones until the boundary between the original landscape and the music became increasingly difficult to distinguish.

The result was Ambush.
The title reflects something Timothy experiences repeatedly when photographing remote landscapes: the feeling that nature can suddenly overwhelm you. A quiet moment can become violent, beautiful or completely unexpected almost instantly.
That tension became central to the track.
Where Photography and Music Meet
For Timothy, photography and music have increasingly become parts of the same creative process.
Photography captures what a place looks like. Music offers a way of exploring what that same place felt like.
The title reflects something Timothy experiences repeatedly when photographing remote landscapes: the feeling that nature can suddenly overwhelm you. A quiet moment can become violent, beautiful or completely unexpected almost instantly.

Ambush ultimately became more than a piece of music inspired by a journey. It became an attempt to preserve the atmosphere of Patagonia itself: the isolation, movement, uncertainty and extraordinary beauty of being surrounded by one of the world's great wilderness landscapes.
